The Master of Engineering (MEng) in Aerospace Science and Engineering offered at UTIAS is a program dedicated to engineers who wish to upgrade their qualifications with the goal of working in the aerospace industry. Students will take courses in all the major aerospace disciplines, in the many other engineering and computer science fields offered at the University of Toronto, and in engineering management. The MEng program is based on course work with no major research component but MEng students may elect to complete the AER1810H MEng project, supervised by a UTIAS professor.

Our program's unique "2+2" curriculum structure differs from other engineering programs.

Foundation Years

The first two years of the program provide a strong foundation in science, mathematics, technology, and design. Collaboration and teamwork are fundamental for labs, projects, and design. Students explore a wide range of engineering topics, career paths, and study options through the broad curriculum, preparing them for upper-year majors selected in the second term of Year 2.

Year 1

Courses: Focus on mathematics, science disciplines, and engineering design in teams.

Outside of the classroom: Students explore career paths and current developments in engineering fields. They can apply to the Engineering Science Summer Research Opportunities Program (ESROP).

Year 2

Courses: Delve deeper into mathematics and science fundamentals. Continue developing engineering design skills.

Outside of the classroom: During winter term, students select their major for Years 3 and 4. Options for a 4-month work term in the Professional Experience Year (PEY) Co-op Program are available.

Majors:

Aerospace Engineering
Biomedical Systems Engineering
Electrical and Computer Engineering
Energy Systems Engineering
Engineering Mathematics, Statistics, and Finance
Engineering Physics
Machine Intelligence
Robotics Engineering
Year 3

Each major builds on the foundation and skills from the first two years with core courses and technical electives.

Outside of the classroom: Students in the PEY Co-op Program prepare for 12-16 month positions and can attend seminars and discussions about graduate school.

PEY Co-op (optional)

Work for 12-16 months on engineering projects globally.

Year 4

Apply knowledge in a capstone design project and individual research thesis, with curriculum flexibility for personal interests.

Outside of the classroom: Guidance for graduate studies and career resources are available through the Engineering Career Centre.

Graduation

All graduates are ready to join over 6,500 alumni globally and become licensed professional engineers.
