A personal statement, 2-3 pages in length. The personal statement may be used as an opportunity to introduce yourself to the committee and may include information not evident on your transcript (especially those without formal language training), your research/future goals or faculty with whom you wish to work.
Supplementary material: Applicants must submit a writing sample that indicates a student's facility with literary critique, preferably an analytical essay on a work of East Asian literature or relevant topic, generally 10-30 pages. NOTE: ALL supplementary material MUST be uploaded by the applicant in the online application system. This includes resumes, writing samples, personal statements, etc. Our office is unable to upload these documents for applicants. Do NOT send hard copies of these documents to the office.
